Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about online sessions, confidentiality, and what to expect.

How do online counselling sessions work?

All sessions are held securely online using private video meeting software (such as Google Meet or Zoom) or phone consultation if preferred. You will receive a private, encrypted link prior to your appointment. All you need is a comfortable private space, a smartphone or computer, and a stable internet connection.

What is a Specialist Wellness Counsellor (ASCHP)?

A Specialist Wellness Counsellor is registered with the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners (ASCHP). Counsellors in this category hold accredited postgraduate honours degrees in psychology or educational psychology, along with rigorous practical training. We provide professional, evidence-informed, person-centred counselling for everyday life challenges, emotional distress, relationships, and wellness. We do not provide clinical psychiatric diagnoses.

In which languages can sessions be conducted?

Bonny is proudly multilingual and conducts counselling in English, Sepedi, Sesotho, isiZulu, and isiXhosa. You are encouraged to speak in the language where you feel most comfortable expressing your emotions.

How do I book a session or the free consultation?

You can book directly using the online booking form on this website, select your preferred service, date, and time. Alternatively, you can WhatsApp or call 068 263 5575 or email bonny.mogano@gmail.com. We offer a Free 15-Minute Introductory Consultation so you can connect before committing.

What are the session fees and payment methods?

Standard individual counselling is R300 for 60 minutes; Children & Teenager counselling is R250; Couples & Family sessions are R450; the 15-minute introductory consultation is completely FREE. Payment can be made via EFT or online instant card payment prior to the session. Detailed invoice receipts are provided.

Is counselling strictly confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a sacred cornerstone of counselling and ethics governed by the ASCHP. Your personal information, discussions, and details are kept strictly private and protected.

Can Bonny diagnose conditions or prescribe medication?

No. Wellness counsellors provide supportive, non-pathological counselling and coping skills. If a client exhibits signs requiring medical treatment or clinical psychiatric assessment, Bonny will refer them to the appropriate psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, or medical practitioner.

How should I prepare for my first session?

Find a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable and won't be interrupted, with a stable internet connection and a device with a working camera and microphone (a phone is perfectly fine). There is no need to prepare anything formal—just come as you are. If it helps, you might jot down a few thoughts about what you'd like to talk about, but this is entirely optional. The first session is gentle and unrushed, focused on building trust and understanding your needs.

How long is each session, and how many will I need?

Each standard counselling session runs for 60 minutes, while the free introductory consultation is 15 minutes. The number of sessions varies from person to person—some clients find clarity in just a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. Together we will review your progress regularly and move at a pace that feels right for you, with no pressure to commit to a set number of sessions.

Can parents or guardians be involved in a child or teen's sessions?

Yes. For younger clients, a collaborative approach that includes parents or guardians is often helpful. However, a young person's privacy and trust are carefully respected, and age-appropriate confidentiality is maintained. We will discuss together how best to balance family involvement with the young person's need for a safe, private space, and separate parent guidance sessions are available as additional support.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Life happens, and rescheduling is completely understood. Please provide at least 24 hours' notice where possible so that the time can be offered to another client who may be waiting. You can reschedule or cancel via WhatsApp, email, or the online booking system, and we will happily find a new time that works better for you.

Do I need to live in South Africa to book a session?

No. Because all sessions are conducted online, you can access counselling from anywhere in the world. All you need is a private space and a stable internet or phone connection. Sessions are available in English, Sepedi, Sesotho, isiZulu, and isiXhosa regardless of where you are located.

What technology or equipment do I need for online sessions?

You only need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a working camera, microphone, and a stable internet connection. Sessions take place through a secure, private video platform (such as Google Meet or Zoom), or by phone if you prefer. A private link is sent to you before each session, and gentle technical guidance is available if you are unsure—no prior technical experience is required.

What should I do if I'm in crisis or having an emergency?

Counselling sessions are supportive and are not designed for emergencies. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a crisis, please contact emergency services on 10111, or reach out to SADAG on 0800 567 567 or the Suicide Crisis Helpline on 0800 21 22 23, both available 24/7. If needed, Bonny will also guide you toward the appropriate crisis or clinical referral.

Will I receive a receipt or invoice for my sessions?

Yes. A detailed invoice and receipt are provided for every paid session, which can be kept for personal records or, where applicable, submitted to certain medical aid or wellness programmes. Please note that coverage depends on your specific scheme, and wellness counselling rates may differ from those of clinical psychologists.

What ages and groups do you work with?

Bonny works with clients across the lifespan—from children (approximately 8 years and older), teenagers, and university students, through to adults, parents, couples, families, and educators. Each session is tailored to the age, needs, and comfort of the person being supported, with age-appropriate approaches for younger clients.

Where is Bonny based, and can I book if I live in Soweto or Johannesburg?

Bonny is based in Soweto and proudly serves the greater Johannesburg and Gauteng community. Because all sessions are held online, you can access counselling from anywhere in Soweto, Johannesburg, Diepsloot, Alexandra, Sandton, Roodepoort, Lenasia, Midrand, Pretoria, and beyond — no travel or waiting rooms required. All you need is a private space and a stable internet or phone connection.

Can sessions be conducted in Sesotho, isiZulu, isiXhosa or Sepedi?

Yes. Bonny is proudly multilingual and offers counselling in English, Sepedi, Sesotho, isiZulu, and isiXhosa. Many clients across Soweto and Johannesburg feel most comfortable expressing their emotions in their home language, and you are warmly encouraged to choose the language that feels most natural to you.
